Star line

Trust in a single line: the star line for headers and footers

The star line is the slimmest way to show a review: one line with an avatar, five stars, one sentence and the name. It fits headers and footers, above your booking button or below a form.

What it does for you

Five stars that stay out of the way

Not every spot on your website has room for a card. The star line needs just one line: a small avatar, five stars, one sentence, the name. That fits the header above your navigation, the footer, or just above the booking button of a dental practice, where a sentence such as “I was finally not afraid any more” lands at the right moment. On narrow screens the line wraps into two lines without you having to set anything.

Rotating or fixed, at your pace

With “Rotating”, the line changes every five seconds through the first three, five or eight reviews, with a soft crossfade. As soon as someone rests the pointer or keyboard focus on it, it pauses so the sentence can be read to the end. If you would rather show the one sentence that describes your offer best, choose “Fixed” and pick the review yourself. The sentence is the short version, otherwise the first sentence of the review, otherwise the first few words, cut at a word boundary.

Fine without a photo, and for Google reviews

If someone has not uploaded a photo, the initial appears in a coloured circle. The line shows the name the way you set it under “Privacy”, for instance as first name and initial. Imported Google reviews carry the note “via Google” with the Google G on wide screens. Under “Appearance” you set theme, border radius, shadow and font size. New reviews appear by themselves, withdrawn ones disappear, and anyone who has reduced motion sees no automatic change.

Embed code

This is what the code looks like. Copy your own code with all your settings in the dashboard under “Embed” > “Widget” and paste it where the reviews should appear.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add the star line to my website?

In the dashboard, open your space, go to “Embed” > “Widget” and pick “Star line” under “Choose a widget”. Set “Appearance” and “Options”, click “Copy code” and paste the code as an HTML block where the line should appear, for instance in the header or footer. Guides for WordPress, Elementor, Wix and other platforms are in our help section.

What does the star line look like on mobile?

On narrow screens the line becomes two lines: stars and name on top, the sentence below. Below a width of about 560 pixels the star line hides the avatar. The height is reserved while it loads, so the page below does not jump.

Which review is shown, and how do I control it?

Under “Display” you choose “Rotating” or “Fixed”. Rotating changes every five seconds through the first 3, 5 or 8 reviews (“Number”), with a soft crossfade, and pauses on hover or keyboard focus. “Fixed” always shows the one review you pick. The sentence is the short version, otherwise the first sentence of the review, otherwise the first few words, cut at a word boundary.

How much does the star line cost?

The star line is included in the free plan, like every widget style, with up to 50 approved reviews and a small “Powered by Mocha” note. On Pro, at €19 a month with a 14-day free trial, the note goes, the number of reviews is unlimited and the line uses your own accent colour. The “short version” is also a Pro feature.

What about GDPR and cookies?

The star line sets no cookies. For the statistics in your dashboard, Mocha counts views and clicks but stores no IP addresses. The reviews come from the Mocha form, where every reviewer first agrees to your consent text; names appear the way you set them under “Privacy”. Whether and how to mention the widget in your privacy policy is a question for your data protection adviser.
