Showing or collecting

Elfsight is a platform for widgets. Its Google Reviews widget connects to your business via name, address or Place ID and shows up to 100 recent reviews.[2] Entry is from $5 per month (plan Basic, billed annually, per app), and prices apply per app.[1]

Mocha starts earlier: it collects reviews through a form, waits for your approval and then shows them in a widget. You can also import Google reviews, although Google returns at most five reviews per request.

Consent

The Elfsight pricing page does not list proof of consent from reviewers.[1] That fits a widget for existing reviews: someone who reviews on Google does not give you their own consent for your website.

Mocha asks for consent in the form and stores wording, version and time. Imported Google reviews do not have this consent. Mocha points this out in the dashboard and applies your space's name rule to them as well.

Name display

In the Google widget, Elfsight lets you choose the name format: full name, first name only, initials or other formats.[4] Mocha sets the display in four levels, for all widgets and the review wall at once.

Views and location

Elfsight limits views per month. If the limit is exceeded, the app is temporarily deactivated.[1] Mocha's plans limit reviews and videos, not views.

Elfsight's privacy policy names Google Cloud Platform for individual widgets and gives no region.[5] Mocha uses servers in Germany.

Choose Elfsight if ...

  • You only want to show your existing Google reviews and use up to 100 recent reviews.[2]
  • You need further widgets besides reviews. Elfsight names over 90 apps.[3]
  • You want names in the Google widget to appear as a first name or initials, without collecting reviews yourself.[4]

Choose Mocha if ...

  • You want to collect your own reviews with a form and approve them before publishing.
  • You want to record the consent of every review with wording, version and time.
  • You want no cap on widget views in your plan.
  • You want servers in Germany and a German interface.

Frequently asked questions

Is Elfsight an alternative to Mocha or an addition?

It can be either. Elfsight is a widget provider that shows existing reviews. Mocha is a tool for collecting, approving and showing your own reviews. If you only want to show Google reviews, a plain widget serves you well.

How many Google reviews can I show?

Elfsight names up to 100 recent reviews. Mocha imports at most five reviews per request, because Google returns no more. With the Mocha form you collect as many of your own reviews as your plan allows.

How do the prices differ?

Elfsight prices per app and limits views per month, while Mocha limits reviews and videos per plan. The figures are in the table above with a source; Elfsight shows dollars.

What about the consent of reviewers?

With Google reviews, the authors decide on Google; this does not give you their consent to show the review on your website. With the Mocha form you ask for it and store it for every review. Legal questions about this are for your adviser.
